Biography
Salvador Vázquez is currently Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the Orquesta de Córdoba, where he leads an artistic project that has attracted particular attention from critics and audiences alike, focused on the refinement of orchestral sound, the strength of the symphonic and operatic repertoire, and the development of a distinctive artistic identity for the institution.

With a growing presence in the operatic field, he has conducted productions in various theatres, establishing a profile widely recognised for clarity of musical vision, his ability to shape dramatic narrative, and meticulous attention to musical detail. His debut at the Teatro de la Maestranza with Carmen was praised by critics for its strong theatrical sense, the balance between stage and pit, and the coherence of its musical approach, confirming his natural affinity for the operatic repertoire. He has also received particular recognition for his work with the Orquesta de Córdoba in the revival of Margot by Joaquín Turina, a project acclaimed both for its artistic initiative and the high interpretative standard achieved.
His activity spans both symphonic and operatic repertoire and has led him to appear as guest conductor with ensembles such as the Orquesta Sinfónica de RTVE, Orquesta Sinfónica de Castilla y León, Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia, Orquestra de València, Real Orquesta Sinfónica de Sevilla, Orquesta Filarmónica de Málaga, Orquesta Sinfónica de Navarra, Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife, West-Eastern Divan Orchestra Academy (Barenboim-Said), Orquesta de Extremadura, Orquesta Ciudad de Granada and the Orquestra Sinfônica de Porto Alegre, among others. He also made his debut at the Teatro de la Zarzuela in 2023 with the Orquesta de la Comunidad de Madrid.

Throughout his career he has collaborated with distinguished soloists and singers including Ainhoa Arteta, Nancy Fabiola Herrera, Leonor Bonilla, Ismael Jordi, and pianists Jorge Luis Prats, Anna Fedorova, Vadym Kholodenko, Daniel Ciobanu, Martina Filjak, Martín García García and Alexandra Dovgan, among many others appearing in symphonic seasons and operatic productions. Particularly valued for his sensitivity to vocal phrasing and his ability to provide attentive and flexible support, he approaches collaboration through active listening and artistic dialogue, aiming to enhance expressive depth and musical coherence.

Upcoming engagements include his debut in Mexico, as well as new recording projects with IBS Classical, featuring the recording of Joaquín Turina’s Margot and a further project with marimbist Conrado Moya and the Orquesta de Córdoba dedicated to the marimba concertos by Joaquín Rodrigo and Lorenzo Palomo. These projects reflect his commitment to promoting Spanish repertoire and his interest in highlighting the richness and diversity of contemporary musical creation.
